Difference between Churches. A widespread amount of Christians are living in different parts of the world, their beliefs and values differ from each other. There are certain differences between all branches of Christianity. A few contrasts are major while some are minor, for instance, whether a priest should have a beard or not, and how baptism is conducted and how to cross ourselves. The conventional priests have pastors that can get married and monks that are not allowed to get married. Whereas Catholics have Priests and Franciscans that cannot get married.

Christians difference between Churches and beliefs

Holy Mary and Original sin

The Roman Catholics are of the belief that Holy Mary was born without Original sin while Eastern Orthodox believe that Mary was cleansed of Original sin.

Language for services

Another major difference amongst the different school of thought of Christianity is language, the Catholic Church services are in Latin whereas the Eastern Orthodox services are held in native languages.

Purgatory

The concept of Purgatory varies amongst the churches as well, Orthodox have no belief in the idea of Purgatory.  Unlike Latin who believes that one can give money to authorities: (Church) to buy souls of dead relatives out of Purgatory and send their souls to Heaven.

Sale of Indulgence

Latin believe in the sale of indulgence, where one can buy forgiveness through Church; that is a person should give money to church before committing a horrendous act and consider himself forgiven afterwards. On the contrary, the Orthodox does not believe in the sale of indulgence. The difference even occurs in the way these sects worship, the Orthodox use icons to worship whereas the Catholics use statues.

Fasting

With regards to fasting Eastern Catholics and certain Roman Catholics do fast like the Orthodox, in spite of the fact that they are not expected to, close to the Ash Wednesday and Fridays in lent. Fasting and Abstinence are characterized independently among every one of the sects.

Composition of the Bible

Orthodox believe in 39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament books. They also believe in a set of books that are not found in original Hebrew Bible. These books are known as the second canon of scripture ( Apocrypha). Protestant reject the Apocrypha and term them ‘Hidden things’. The Roman Catholics validated the scriptures or Apocrypha and have faith in them.

Marriage and Divorce

According to Orthodox belief, marriage is considered a spiritual union between two individuals (man and a woman), whereas Divorce is only allowed in cases of adultery.

In protestant believe marriage is a breakable contract, divorce is mostly discouraged but is permitted after proof of human weakness.

In Roman Catholicism marriage is seen as an unbreakable contract. Remarrying after divorce is not allowed unless there is some established disorder to the marriage.
